Search Begins for New Winter Park Town Manager

The Town of Winter Park has begun the search process for a permanent Town Manager. Known to be an authentic, active mountain town, Winter Park is looking for a Town Manager that fits well with the community’s culture and can keep the organization’s current momentum.

Mayor Jimmy Larhman commented, “We’re very excited to move through this process to find a new leader that supports our vision and appreciates all that Winter Park has to offer. With so many new projects developing, we hope the new manager can bring positive and innovative energy to support the fast pace.”

Reacting to Growth

Like many Colorado communities, Winter Park has seen fast growth over the past few years without an end in sight. To ensure that Winter Park continues to be a great place to live, work and play, new focuses were established with high priority placed on transit and affordable housing.

Service of the Lift, Winter Park’s free transit system, has increased over the years to include several areas outside of town limits and saw its one-millionth rider last summer. The service continues to grow and meet the ridership needs.

The Town reached a major milestone in 2017 with the opening of Hideaway Place, its first town-owned affordable housing complex. Several other similar developments are in the works along with finding innovative ways to help support the local workforce.

Other major changes are coming from the Winter Park Resort as well to make the area an even more attractive destination. It was recently announced that $30 million from Alterra, the Resort’s parent company, would be dedicated to capital improvements to the mountain.

Hiring Process & Timeline

Stan Zemler, formerly the Town Manager for Vail, has been serving as Interim Town Manager since March to assist until a new, permanent manager is hired. The Town has been working with recruitment firm Peckham & McKenney to help facilitate the search and hiring process.

The Town Manager position is open for applications now through early July with preliminary interviews following. During the second half of July, the final candidates will be chosen and interviewed again. The Town hopes that a new manager will be selected and hired by mid-August. Candidates can apply at
