Landscape & Yard Tips

Our Forestry Division gets a lot of questions about growing trees and plants, and the best places to get them in our area. So our team put together a list with tips and resources to get you started!

  1. Middle Park Conservation District: Offers grass and wildflower seeds, a variety of native seedlings, and is a great resource for most things natural in Grand county. They're an excellent information source, especially regarding our varying climate by offering tips from one end of the spectrum to the other.
  2. Cold Springs Greenhouse: They're arguably the best selection in the County for garden and landscaping plants, as well as a variety of seeds. They also have great information for landscaping, gardening, microclimates - all things plants and everything to support a healthy landscape.
  3. Colorado Weed Management Association: An online guide to objectionable ("noxious") plants throughout our state.
  4. Recipe for natural weed killer: Ingredients include 1 gallon of apple cider vinegar, ¼ -1/2 cup of Epsom salt and 1-2 teaspoons of dish soap. Combine thoroughly and spray on undesirables—use care as this will kill most plant material it contacts! If you have any liquid leftover in a sprayer with metal parts, be sure to flush out hose/metal parts with water to prevent corrosion.

Happy gardening!
