In November 2023, voters approved a 2% increase to the Town's lodging tax (from 1% to 3%). The additional 2% is estimated to generate approximately $1.2 million per year and will be directed toward community housing, childcare, and other community needs as determined by Council. On March 5, 2024, the ordinance implementing the voter-approved lodging tax increase passed the second reading by Town Council and became an official ordinance on March 10, 2024.
For Lodging Properties:
Reservations created on or after April 1, 2024, which arrive on or after July 1, 2024, are subject to the additional 2% lodging tax. Each lodging company should provide the Town with a spreadsheet of all reservations booked before April 1, 2024, which arrive after July 1, 2024. The spreadsheet should contain six fields:
- Reservation Creation Date
- Property Name
- Property Physical Address
- Arrival Date
- Departure Date
- Gross Taxable Revenue
This report needs to be emailed to the Town Finance Director, Craig Rutherford, at crutherford@wpgov.com by April 8, 2024.
