While neither the East Troublesome Fire nor the Williams Fork Fire poses an immediate threat to the Winter Park/Fraser area, please be conscientious of the many emergency responders in the area. There may be increased responder traffic on Hwy 40. Fire danger remains extremely high, and fire restrictions remain in effect.

Updates from Oct. 29

Forest Supervisor Monte Williams confirmed that the temporary closure of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests will continue through the weekend. This decision was closely coordinated with and supported by Grand, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Boulder, Larimer and Jefferson counties and their sheriffs. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has also supported the Forest in this decision.

Updates from Oct. 28

The snow has slowed fire activity; however, it is not expected to be enough to put the fire out. The low temperatures along with snow has meant no growth in the fire perimeter.
East Troublesome Fire – Grand Zone: These weather conditions provided a pause in fire activity, allowing crews the opportunity to maintain and prepare their equipment while staging. Fire managers and elected officials met in the afternoon for a briefing on the latest information on the fire, evacuations, and impacts to the local community.
Williams Fork Fire: Yesterday, firefighters used the pause in fire activity to get engines repaired. Today, firefighters will continue to patrol and monitor the fire, as conditions allow.
County/Evacuations: Evacuation levels continue to be adjusted across Grand County and around the East Troublesome Fire area. For Grand County, updates are provided by Emergency Management and can be found at gcemergency.com. Visit the Grand County Sheriff Facebook page for more information on the home winter mitigation process and changes to the evacuation levels. Please visit the Larimer County site for evacuations in the Thompson Zone.
Closures: Forest closures are in place for the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. Portions of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Jackson County have reopened. All of the Rocky Mountain National Park is closed. The Bureau of Land Management – Kremmling Field Office has reopened some lands previously closed areas.

Updates from Oct. 26

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office has announced the re-entry plan for areas on the east side of Highway 34.
At 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office will open all areas south of the intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 6 east and west on both sides of the highway, including all areas of County Road 6. County Road 40 remains closed.
At 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020, areas on the east side of Highway 34 north into the Town of Grand Lake will be open to just north of the Gateway Inn at Mile Marker 14.5. Residents will be allowed to access those areas east of Highway 34. Areas to the west of Highway 34 will remain closed as firefighters, law enforcement and Disaster Assessment Teams continue their work.
The Lift will begin a call-and-ride service starting Monday, October 26 at 7 am to provide service to evacuees located in and throughout the Fraser, Winter Park and the Meadowridge areas. You access this service by calling 970-726-4163. This will only provide service in and through the Fraser, Winter Park and Meadowridge areas.
If you are returning to your home in the Grand Lake area please remember that there was a period of time during the fire in which your electrical power was lost. This will impact food quality and safety in your home. You should make plans to ensure an adequate food supply prior to returning to your home.

The evacuation order South of US Highway 40 along County Rd 57 has been reduced to a pre-evacuation. Any evacuated residents in this Area may return to their homes but be vigilant and prepared. The online map will be updating this area's label to CC-2.
Highway 40 in Grand County will re-open Friday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m. after closure for the East Troublesome Fire. For residents and visitors in Grand County it is a major step towards recovery. Drivers are asked to exercise caution as firefighters and first responders continue to work in the area of the wildfire. Access to Highway 40 will not yet allow residents to return to their homes within the evacuated areas.

Updates from Oct. 22

There is another red flag warning in effect for today. We anticipate another active fire day for the East Troublesome Fire.
The Sulphur Ranger District has been added to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest’s temporary closure of National Forest land in Grand, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Boulder, Larimer and part of Jefferson counties, effective at noon on Oct. 22. The Routt National Forest will be adjusting its area closure into Jackson county as well. Learn more
The Chamber of Commerce has closed the Visitor's Center.
The Coffee with Council originally scheduled for tonight has been canceled.
The Fire briefing scheduled for 4 p.m. has been moved to 5:30 p.m.

East Troublesome Fire

While the East Troublesome Fire does not pose an immediate risk to the Winter Park/Fraser area, Winter Park Town staff is mobilizing to assist fire response and recovery efforts and is monitoring the situation closely. The Grand County Emergency Response is currently overwhelmed with physical donations. The best way to help at this time is to donate to the Grand Foundation’s Wildlife Emergency Fund.

Williams Fork Fire

Despite high winds and dry conditions, the Williams Fork Fire has experienced slow growth over the past month. The Williams Fork Fire does not pose an immediate risk to the Winter Park/Fraser area.
